    Net Play, A Key to Doubles Success

    To be a strong net player:

    Many players feel they are not strong enough at the net to play winning doubles. The truth is, they just do not fully understand net strategy. This is particularly true when their partner is receiving serve. Positioned on the service line, you have to assess the quality of your partner’s return and then respond. It is a challenge, but with the proper strategy you can turn this defensive position into a winning one for your team.

    Know your play:

    As your opponent prepares to serve, take a quick glance at his partner, who will soon give you the quickest read by his body movement as to what type of return your partner hits. This will give you the ability to move into the right position at the net and give you the edge to poach or put the ball away.

    Be alert at the net:

    1. Playing the net means you’re always alert!
    2. Take a glance at your partner and move accordingly to his position on the court.
    3. Listen for his footwork. It will let you know what direction he is moving to.
